Zermatt by Minibus: As Far as Täsch, Then the Train
No minibus or coach drives into Zermatt: cars stay out of the village, and only licensed taxis may use the road above Täsch. Your driver brings you to the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, about 5 km below, and a shuttle train does the last 12 minutes.
How the change at Täsch works
The Matterhorn Terminal puts the car park and the station under one roof. Shuttle trains leave every 20 minutes and arrive in the middle of the village, and luggage trolleys can go on board with you.
Coaches can use the free Kiss & Ride area outdoors for up to 30 minutes. Indoors the clearance is 2.30 m, and bigger vehicles use the open-air area, so the operator checks which one yours needs. Arriving by coach? Your bags can travel separately at no charge if you sign them up before 16:00 on the previous day.
In Zermatt itself you walk, call an electric taxi, or ride a free e-bus around the village.

Getting to Täsch
From Geneva Airport it is about 229 km, about 3.5 hours by road in light traffic; Sion's airport is about 1.5 hours. From Zurich the direct road crosses the Furka and Grimsel passes, which are usually closed from November to June, so outside summer the drive is long.
Small groups have a useful option: the Lötschberg car train from Kandersteg carries buses with up to 22 seats, though not a full-size coach. The Furka car train runs all year too, with size and weight limits that the operator checks against the vehicle.

Days out from the Mattertal
Gornergrat and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise start in the village, so you need no vehicle for those. The minibus comes into its own for the valley around you.
Saas-Fee, car-free as well, is about 55 minutes from Täsch, and vehicles park where the village begins. For the Aletsch Glacier, allow about 1.25 hours to Betten and its cable car up to Bettmeralp; Leukerbad is about 1.5 hours. Chamonix in France makes a long but lovely day at about 2.75 hours each way.
Meeting the Glacier Express
The Glacier Express starts in Zermatt and takes about 8 hours to St. Moritz. Seats must be reserved, and groups of 10 or more book through the railway's group service. Each year it stops running between mid-October and early December. A minibus can wait for you and your bags at the other end.
Questions travellers ask
Can the minibus drive to our hotel in Zermatt?
No. The road from Täsch to Zermatt is closed to public traffic. The shuttle train brings you into the village, and an electric taxi can take you and your bags on to the hotel.
Where can we stay if we want the minibus every day?
Täsch, Randa and the rest of the Mattertal have road access, so the driver can collect you at the door each morning.
When is Zermatt especially busy?
Zermatt Unplugged (6–10 April 2027) fills both the village and the shuttle trains. Allow extra time at Täsch.
