Minibus Services Across Switzerland

Accessible trips for groups with wheelchair users

When one or more of your group uses a wheelchair, the vehicle decides how easy the day will be. A wheelchair-accessible minibus with a lift or ramp and securing points lets everyone travel together, so nobody is sent on ahead in a taxi.

Tell us about the passengers, not just the numbers

Wheelchair places take the room of seats and some of the luggage space, so layouts vary. Say how many people travel in their wheelchairs, how many transfer to a seat, and whether a scooter or folded chairs come along. The operator matches the layout to your group.

Companions of people who need special care, travelling in vehicles of a disability transport service, are exempt from wearing seat belts, so a carer can stay close to the person they look after. Everyone else belts up wherever belts are fitted.

Cruises, venues and panoramic trains

All the Rhine cruise landing stages in Basel are barrier-free and reachable by wheelchair. Palexpo in Geneva keeps spaces in its P12 car park for people with reduced mobility and can open set-down areas by the main doors when asked.

For a day on the Glacier Express, book wheelchair places in advance. Travelling on the Bernina Express or its connecting bus from Tirano to Lugano? Request help getting on and off in advance from the SBB's Call Center Handicap; a wheelchair space on that bus is reserved via the RhB Railservice. Your minibus can meet the group where the rail leg ends.

Worth knowing before the day

  • Wheelchair users book Glacier Express places in advance; boarding and alighting help on the Bernina Express and the Bernina Express Bus is ordered in advance from the SBB Call Center Handicap, and wheelchair seats on the Bernina Express Bus are booked through the RhB Railservice
  • Companions of people needing special care in vehicles of disability transport services are exempt from wearing seat belts (Art. 3a Abs. 2 Bst. f VRV)

Concerts and festivals

The Montreux Jazz Festival publishes an accessibility offer for visitors with disabilities. Read it before you fix the pickup times, so the vehicle arrives when the help you have booked is ready.

Questions travellers ask

Does an accessible minibus need a special licence?

No special one. Its driver holds the same D1 licence as for any other minibus of that size.

Can we combine an accessible minibus with a coach?

Yes. A large group can travel in a coach with an accessible minibus alongside, on the same timetable, so the whole party arrives together.

Can the minibus wait while we visit?

Yes. Give the visit times; the driver waits nearby or comes back at the agreed time, depending on parking at the site.
