Bern Airport minibus pickups: a small terminal near the Bernese Oberland

Bern Airport at Belp is small and calm, which suits a group: you come out of one terminal and your minibus is a few steps away. It is also far closer to the Bernese Oberland than Zurich or Geneva, so the mountains can come on the very first afternoon.

Flights here are limited. In 2026 the airport's plan was mainly summer holiday flights, April into mid-October, heading south to the Mediterranean and North Africa, with Jersey too, plus a small test link to Munich on a 9-seat aircraft. When this page was written there was no winter plan yet, so check today's timetable before planning a holiday around Bern.

Meeting at the terminal

There is no published coach stop, coach park or waiting area for cars with driver. Your group gathers inside the terminal and walks out to the vehicle waiting in front of it; the operator tells you the exact spot.

Anyone dropping off or collecting a relative can use P31 or P21 near the building. Spaces cannot be reserved, and short stays are charged by the hour.

  • Grindelwald is about 69 km by road, about 1 h 30 min by coach in light traffic.
  • Interlaken (Höhematte) is about 52 km by road, about 1 h by coach in light traffic.
  • There is no railway station at the airport. Bus line 160 links the airport with the stations of Belp and Rubigen (S-Bahn lines S1, S3, S4, S31 and S44); the airport gives just under 35 minutes from Bern station to the airport by public transport.
  • In 2025 the airport handled about 60,400 passengers.
  • Scheduled service is limited. The airport's 2026 flight plan lists mainly seasonal holiday flights from April to mid-October, to destinations in southern Europe, North Africa and the Channel Islands, plus a regular link to München on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a 9-seat aircraft, started in spring 2026 as a test phase. No winter flight plan was published when checked, so always check the current timetable.

Into Bern

The Zytglogge, the clock tower in Bern's old town, is about 17 km by the A6, around 30 minutes. There is no railway station at the airport: bus 160 runs to Belp and Rubigen for the S-Bahn, and the airport gives just under 35 minutes from Bern station. With bags, prams or grandparents, the minibus spares you the changes.

Mountains, lakes and cheese

Interlaken is about 52 km, around an hour, and Grindelwald about 69 km, around 1 h 30 min. No roads climb to car-free Wengen and Mürren: the minibus drops you at Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald and a train carries you up. Gstaad is about 81 km, around 1 h 45 min.

Measured from central Bern, Thun and its castle are about 29 km and Murten about 32 km. Gruyères is about 67 km, about an hour, and the Emmental show dairy at Affoltern about 36 km: an easy cheese day for a family or a club.

Are there flights in winter?

No winter plan had been published when this was checked. If nothing suits, Zurich Airport is about 127 km from the centre of Bern, around 1 h 45 min, and a minibus can make that run too.

Can the driver wait while we collect our bags?

The airport publishes no rules for coaches or group vehicles, so the operator agrees where the driver waits. In a terminal this size, the walk to the door is short.

Is Bern a good choice for a Jungfrau holiday?

If your flight lands here, yes. Interlaken is about an hour away, which leaves the afternoon free for a first walk or a boat on Lake Thun.
