Gstaad and the Saanenland in a Minibus with Driver

Gstaad is a village of chalets at the heart of the Saanenland, with Saanen, Schönried and Lauenen close by. A minibus suits it well: it keeps a family, a wedding party or a club together between the villages, the station and the glacier.

A village made for walking

The Promenade belongs to pedestrians. For cars there are the sports centre, Eggli P1, Eggli P3 (winter only) and a multi-storey in Saanen, and nobody may sleep overnight in a vehicle.

No public coach park is listed; at the request of the mountain railways, coach parking is agreed with them in advance. Your operator confirms the stop in the village before you travel.

Glacier 3000, just over the canton line

The cable cars to Glacier 3000 leave from the Col du Pillon. That pass already lies in canton Vaud, though it is only half an hour's drive from Gstaad, and big paid car parks wait at the top and down at Reusch. Up top are the Peak Walk suspension bridge, the Alpine Coaster in summer and the rebuilt Botta building with three restaurants.

Groups of 10 to 500 book ahead. The cable cars close for maintenance between seasons, so check the dates when you plan.

Trains, lakes and cheese country

The GoldenPass Express links Montreux, Gstaad and Interlaken four times a day. If you are 10 or more, seats on trains and buses have to be booked two working days in advance, before noon, so plan the train leg early and let the driver meet you at the other end.

Gruyères is about 55 minutes away, Château de Chillon about 1.25 hours. Closer to home, you can reach the Lauenensee by bus or park there for a fee; Château-d'Œx is 25 minutes away, and the Rinderberg starts from Zweisimmen.

Getting here

Bern Airport is about 1.75 hours away, Geneva about 2.5 and Zurich about 3.5. From Bern the road runs through the Simmental, from the Valais over the Col du Pillon, and from Lausanne via Bulle and Château-d'Œx. The Pillon, the Mosses and the Jaunpass all stay open in winter, and on the Pillon winter tyres are advised.
