Minibus Services Across Switzerland

Geneva with a Minibus and Driver, from the Lakeshore to the Vineyards

Geneva is compact and international, with the French border never far away, which makes it a lovely base for a small group. The airport is a quarter of an hour from the Pont du Mont-Blanc, and a minibus opens up Annecy, Yvoire and the Lavaux terraces for days out.

Finding a place to stop

Geneva publishes no list of coach stops, and its public car parks are made for cars. The one coach park the museums mention lies where Avenue de la Paix runs down to the Place des Nations, handy for the Palais des Nations and for the Red Cross Museum opposite.

For the Old Town and the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre there is no official set-down point, so the operator confirms a stop and the driver meets you at an agreed corner afterwards. Works for the new Tram des Nations continue around the Place des Nations until the end of 2028, so allow a few extra minutes there.

Carry the right sticker

On smoggy days the canton may activate its differentiated-traffic scheme. From 06:00 to 22:00 almost the whole city is then open only to vehicles showing a Stick'AIR sticker, or the French Crit'Air equivalent. It is announced the day before, so ask the operator to make sure your minibus carries one.

Favourite stops around Geneva

  • Mouettes genevoises (taxi-boats) — The yellow taxi-boats crossing the harbour are part of Geneva public transport; the Geneva Transport Card given to hotel guests covers them.
  • Lake cruises (CGN) — CGN boats on Lake Geneva leave from the Geneva piers Genève Mont-Blanc, Genève Jardin-Anglais, Genève Pâquis and Genève Eaux-Vives. Groups of 10 or more should contact the CGN group service; a group announcement does not guarantee seats, so groups should be at the pier at least 20 minutes before departure. Group catering must be requested at least 15 days ahead. The "Geneva Tour" cruise on the Petit-Lac departs from Genève Mont-Blanc (up to six departures a day in season).
  • Patek Philippe Museum — Rue des Vieux-Grenadiers 7 (Plainpalais). Open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 14:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 18:00; closed on listed public holidays and from 29 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. Group admission applies from 10 people. Private guided tours (1.5 to 2 hours, seven languages) are by appointment only. Online tickets in advance are recommended.
  • Vieille-Ville (Old Town) and Cathédrale Saint-Pierre — One of the largest historic old towns in Europe, with cobblestone streets, the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre (a major site of the Reformation; 157 steps to the top of the tower) and the Reformation Wall in the Parc des Bastions. No official coach set-down point in the Old Town was found.
  • Jet d'eau — The 140-metre water fountain in the harbour (Les Eaux-Vives side), Geneva's landmark. CGN lake cruises leave from the nearby Genève Jardin-Anglais and Genève Mont-Blanc piers.
  • CERN Science Gateway (Meyrin) — Esplanade des Particules 1, Meyrin. Registration is required for every visit. Groups of 12 to 48 visitors must register online, up to 9 months ahead, and can visit Tuesday to Saturday (Sundays are for families and individuals); closed on Mondays and from 23 December 2026 to 5 January 2027. Guided tours are for ages 13 and over and last 120 to 180 minutes; for a guided tour the identity of every visitor must be given at the latest 21 days before, and the visit must be confirmed 21 days ahead or it may be cancelled. School and university requests must come from an official school address; requests from tour operators are refused. A coach park north of the Science Gateway is reserved for coaches of groups with a booking; cars, minibuses, vans and campers must use the paid car park behind the Globe of Science and Innovation. Tram 18 from Gare de Cornavin (stop "Meyrin, CERN"), about 25 minutes.
  • International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum — Avenue de la Paix 17. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00 (Thursdays until 20:00); closed on Mondays and on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Guided tours (1 hour; English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese) for up to 25 people per guide, booked at least 14 working days in advance; changes or cancellation no later than 7 working days before. Audioguide in nine languages for self-guided groups. A coach park is at the end of Avenue de la Paix, at the foot of the Place des Nations; from there the museum is about 10 to 15 minutes on foot, or tpg lines 8, 11, 20, 22, 60 and 61.
  • Palais des Nations (United Nations Office at Geneva) — Guided tours only, booked on the official UN Geneva website; tours last about one hour and cover about 2 km on foot. Each visitor needs a ticket and must then register for a personal digital access badge (QR code). Every visitor must carry a valid passport; identity cards from the Schengen area are also accepted. Be at the meeting point 30 minutes before the tour for security screening; luggage larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm is not allowed. Groups can book tours in many languages. The Palais is under complete renovation: tours run but are limited and the route can change; individual tour dates are released on the 20th of each month for the next month and sell out quickly. No tours on UN holidays. Visitor entrance: Pregny Gate, Avenue de la Paix 14. Visitors may not park inside the premises; the public underground car park at Place des Nations is reached via Rue de Varembé. Tram des Nations works around the Palais affect road access.

Arriving by boat

The UN, the Red Cross and the watchmakers

Tours of the Palais des Nations are booked on the UN Geneva website and take about an hour on foot. Every visitor carries a passport (a Schengen identity card also works) and arrives at Pregny Gate half an hour before for the security check. The building is being renovated, so tour dates are limited and go quickly.

Across the road, the Red Cross Museum guides groups of up to 25, booked at least 14 working days ahead. The Patek Philippe Museum in Plainpalais mostly opens in the afternoon and gives private tours by appointment.

Lake days and French neighbours

CGN boats leave from the Mont-Blanc and Jardin-Anglais piers near the Jet d'eau. A party of ten or more contacts the group service, and everyone should be at the pier 20 minutes before sailing. The yellow Mouettes taxi-boats across the harbour are part of public transport.

Nyon is about 30 minutes away, Yvoire across the border about 45 and Annecy about 55. Lausanne takes about an hour, Cully in Lavaux about 1.25 hours and Gruyères about 1.75 hours.

Questions travellers ask

Where do we meet the minibus at Geneva Airport?

Only one place handles professional pickups: P6 – Gare Routière, reached from the Arrivals level. Follow the coach station signs. A car for up to eight people uses a different area, so agree the meeting point when you book.

Can we spend a day in Chamonix?

Yes. Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is about 82 km, around 1.25 hours. A Swiss-based vehicle may take your group into France and back; French road rules apply once you cross, and the operator looks into them before you set off.

Can the driver pick us up at Cornavin station?

No official set-down point at Gare de Cornavin was found. The operator will suggest a nearby spot, and many small groups simply meet at their hotel instead.
