Minibus Services Across Switzerland

Pick the Vehicle That Fits Your Group

Six types of vehicle can be booked with a driver, and the minibus is the one this site is built around. Count people and luggage together, and the right size usually becomes clear.

Size by headcount

Up to eight passengers: an executive car, or a van set up as a car. Nine to 16: a minibus, or the roomier Sprinter-style version. Around 25 to 35: a midi-coach. Beyond that, a full-size coach with 45 to 57 seats. When someone in the group uses a wheelchair, an accessible minibus with a lift or ramp lets everyone ride together.

Why size matters on Swiss roads

Smaller vehicles cope better with narrow village streets and mountain roads, but the rules change with the size too. Lucerne keeps vehicles with nine seats or fewer out of its central coach stops. Täsch limits its covered car park to 2.30 m in height, so taller vehicles park outdoors. Up to 3.5 t a minibus carries the motorway vignette; anything heavier pays the heavy vehicle fee instead.

Questions travellers ask

What makes it a car or a bus?

The seats. With up to eight passengers it is a car; from nine passengers it is a bus, and the driver needs a category D1 or D licence.

Will our suitcases fit in a minibus?

A full minibus has little room left at the back. If the group travels with large cases or ski bags, consider a midi-coach, or fewer people per minibus.

Can we choose the make or model?

The quote fixes the vehicle type; the exact model depends on the operator. If a feature matters, such as extra legroom or a wheelchair lift, mention it in the request.
