St. Moritz and the Engadin with a Minibus and Driver

St. Moritz lies in a high valley of lakes and famous trains. With a minibus and a driver you can ride the railway one way and be met at the other end, and still reach the small villages the trains pass by.

How tour vehicles stop in St. Moritz

Under the commune's tourist-bus concept, day-trip coaches may not enter St. Moritz Dorf, whose core is a pedestrian zone. They set down and pick up only at two terminals, one in St. Moritz Bad (Via Rosatsch) and one by the lake at the station, for up to 10 minutes with the engine off. Empty coaches wait at the Signalbahn car park.

A permit from the commune police lets a coach into the centre to bring overnight hotel guests or registered lunch and dinner groups. No permit is needed to bring hotel guests who are travelling on one of the two panoramic trains. The operator confirms how the rules apply to the vehicle you book.

Train one way, minibus the other

The Bernina Express runs over the Bernina pass to Tirano in Italy in about 2 hours 15 minutes. Your driver can be waiting in Tirano and bring you back by road in about 1.25 hours, with a stop in Poschiavo if you like. Swiss vehicles may take groups across the border and back.

St. Moritz is also the end of the Glacier Express from Zermatt, which takes an annual break from mid-October to early December. Groups of 10 or more book both panoramic trains through the railway's group service.

Arriving, and the winter passes

From Zurich Airport allow about 3.5 hours for some 215 km over the Julier pass, which is open all year; snow can add time. The Albula is normally shut from December and the Flüela from January, both until May. The Vereina car train from Klosters takes buses, with less room for tall vehicles on winter weekends.

Questions travellers ask

Which events fill St. Moritz in 2027?

The Snow Polo World Cup on the frozen lake, 22 to 24 January; the White Turf horse races on three February Sundays (the 7th, 14th and 21st); and the Engadin Skimarathon, 14 March. Book early for those dates.

Can the minibus drop us at our hotel in the Dorf?

Overnight hotel guests can be brought in with a permit from the commune police. Day trips use the two terminals.

Is Lake Como possible as a day trip?

It is about 3.25 hours each way over the Maloja pass and Chiavenna, so it makes a long day. Drivers must keep to their hours and breaks, and the operator plans the timings around them.
